So there I was, surrounded by a mass of jumping, waving, screaming fans. All eyes focused on the slender figure rocking out at center stage. His band, Train. His name, Pat Monahan. His title, Rock Star.

1. They’re sexy. It’s no secret to any of my friends that I think Adam Levine truly is the sexiest man alive. Not only is he amazingly good looking, but to be a Rock Star means that you also have to be confident, bold, and assertive – all things women find sexy. Oh, and then there’s the ink. Not all rock stars have it, but some of my favorites have sleeves. Totally hot in that I’ve-committed-to-this-for-the-rest-of-my-life-and-I’m-a-bad-boy kind of way. We all have talents, but to be a Rock Star you have to have a very particular skill set (cue the monologue from “Taken”), one that reaches people. 3. It’s not what they say, but how they say it. There are certain voices out there that cause a reaction in us. The voices we recognize after hearing only the first 3 syllables of the song and we have to stop what we’re doing to turn up the radio. They can soothe us, excite us, make us sad, or sometimes fearful for the journey of the one they are signing about. Some have a gravely voice, some smoky and soft, some rough, and others like butter.
Recently I’ve found myself captivated by Hozier. His voice is so distinctive I’d know it anywhere. His voice is full, haunting, and sexy smooth. Whether he’s written the songs he sings, or if he’s just using the words as a method to tell us something – I don’t know. What I know is that I will listen to whatever he is saying.
4. It’s also what they say. Ed Sheeran isn’t what I would call a “classically beautiful male.” He’s skinny, has a shock of red hair, and doesn’t have the washboard abs or the chiseled jaw line of Adonis of Greek mythology. What Ed Sheeran has is his genuine self – and that’s sexier than anything. Recently I had a dream where Adam Levine and I were at some sort of a conference. The room was full so we sat in the back in those uncomfortable “overflow” chairs. He introduced himself to me (like I wouldn’t know who he was?!?!?!) and we talked about my book I’ve written and am trying to get published (“The Between”). He ignored the speaker the entire time, listened to me, and talked with me about it. After the class he hugged me like we were old friends and said, “You can’t quit. It’s a great story and I can’t wait to read it.”
