This week the fires here in Wenatchee have been sweeping the media. It’s all over Facebook, on the news, the Twittersphere, everywhere there’s talk of the destruction the fire has left in it’s wake. This week I wanted honor the firemen – those who risk their lives to save our families, pets, homes, and property.
“Finally!” Says my husband, the former fireman.
Everyone loves a man in uniform, and I imagine I’ll explore the attraction of that in a later post, but this week I wanted to talk about firemen. What is it about them that makes them so amazingly sexy? As an archetype, what traits do they have that act like nectar for a hummingbird? Let’s talk.
1. They know how to handle their hoses. All innuendo aside (I’m sure they’re good at that too), firehoses are heavy, wet, and take some serious strength and resolve to control. Firemen are strong and unwavering. Even after 12 hours of fighting fires they’ll still find the strength to drag a 1,000 pound fully charged hose to the other side of a house because now the fire has moved over there. That’s determination. That’s sexy.
2. They’re good under pressure. In fact, the more things heat up, the more responsive they become. As a general rule, most firemen are pressure-players. When the adrenaline gets going they come alive and thrive on it. That kind of attitude says that they’re adventurous and love action – in life and in the bedroom.
3. They don’t like to lose. Period. When they set their mind to it, that’s what they’re going to do. Saving a house, or shaking the sheets, a fireman is dedicated to achieving what he set out to do. A splendid trait in my book.

4. They rescue people, and also pets. From a damsel in distress, to a kitten up a tree, or even giving a dog mouth-to-mouth. Who couldn’t just fall instantly in love with a man who will go out on a limb, literally, to save us?
5. They react to adversity, not shy from it. Firemen run toward a fire. That takes a special type of person. I’m sure this carries over to their lives as well. In an argument? Well let’s see if we can’t just sort it out and put out this “fire.” They’ll risk their lives for strangers, just imagine what they’ll do for a loved one.
6. Even dirty and smudgy they’re still sexy. A hard working man, especially one who has been working at saving a house, or a pet, or a person, regardless of soot, or sweat… they chose to be there. To be the one working hard, to be the one who is willing to get dirty and get the job done. A man who is willing to work hard and get the job done is definitely sexy.
So what is the sexiest thing about a fireman? Well, everything.
Their priorities are life, property, then they think of themselves. This week I’ve seen firetrucks from all over the state, and although my family and home were not in danger I want to take time to say, “Thank you. Thank you for being who you are and doing what you do. Thank you for putting the lives and well-being of others before your own.” The next time you see a firetruck or a fireman, thank them. Wave at them, shake their hand, hug them, or kiss them if you can.
